Understanding the Hype about Magic Mushrooms (21st Nov 22 at 11:28am UTC)Quote Reply
For thousands of years, psychedelic-active plants and fungi have been employed by cultures all over the world to induce altered states of consciousness. Because persons who used them commonly reported having mystical or religious experiences, these drugs were regarded as sacred and did more than just momentarily alter one's perspective of the world.

Even today, many users of psychedelics believe they give them a special kind of perspicacity, and the number of users of psychedelics seems to be rising. The effects of these medications are currently the subject of numerous clinical trials, and some localities and states are contemplating decriminalising "magic mushrooms," which contain the psychoactive substance psilocybin.

The most common side effects of the drug include auditory and visual hallucinations, changes in mood and perception, a sense of oceanic boundlessness, and changes in reasoning and thinking. But after the acute effects of the drug wear off, many people report feeling more empathic and self-aware, which is why these drugs have drawn a lot of interest from medical researchers. Despite the fact that preliminary clinical trials suggest that these side effects may have therapeutic benefits, particularly for those who are approaching the limits of their mortality, this is by no means an endorsement of the drugs in question because much more research must be done before medical science can say with certainty that they are effective.
Research on psychedelics' effects on people who are nearing the end of a terminal illness and going through existential distress as a result of their impending death is perhaps some of the most promising. Psilocybin, the active component in "magic mushrooms," has been shown in numerous studies to be an effective psychedelic for producing antidepressant and anxiolytic effects by allowing users to accept their own mortality.

These results are not only fairly recent, but they are also backed up by substantial data sets. This is crucial because, if the evidence weren't so compelling, many Western doctors and medical researchers would have regarded claims about psilocybin with skepticism.

For many years, even the suggestion that psilocybin and other psychedelics might have therapeutic value was frequently interpreted as endorsing both the drugs and the 1960s counterculture. And while many researchers still stigmatise the use of psychedelics like psilocybin as belonging to this counterculture, more and more studies are coming out that clearly show that psilocybin does have therapeutic potentials.

Research has been hampered not just by societal stigmas associated with the use of substances like psilocybin. Moreover, there are legal limitations. The Food and Medication Administration (FDA) still classifies psilocybin as a Schedule 1 drug, which means there are considerable regulatory obstacles prohibiting researchers from getting and researching the substance. The good news is that psilocybin has been recognised by the FDA as a breakthrough therapy twice, most recently for the management of severe depressive illness. The FDA states that the breakthrough treatment designation "is designed to speed the development and approval of medications for critical or life-threatening illnesses."

Safety and risks
The study on psychedelics has been done with considerable caution and a strong focus on safety, even though it is thrilling and intriguing. Patients having any personal or familial history of bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, or psychotic disorder are excluded under strict exclusion criteria since it is possible that psychedelics could hasten early-onset or acute episodes of these disorders. The risk to safety is minimal because psychedelics have no known addictive characteristics and no deadly dose (Solon, 2017).

The intensity of the encounter may pose the biggest risk to the patients. However, by having two experienced therapists present who can comfort and support the patient throughout the entire session, a large portion of this risk can be controlled.
Negative experiences have been reduced thanks to this support, pre-session relationship-building, and a strong emphasis on "letting the experience take them where it will."
Psilocybin recently received "breakthrough" status from the FDA, and Health Canada has given the go-ahead for research trials, but strict safety guidelines are in place, and patient welfare is given top priority.

Penis Envy is one of the rarest and most sought-after Psilocybe Cubensis among die-hard psychonauts. The term "penis envy" refers to the physical characteristics of the product, which include a large shaft and a bulbous head that does not quite spread out. Penis envy mushrooms dried are true to their anatomical side, with a thick, dense, fleshy shaft and bulbous caps that both pack a potent psychedelic punch.
